Emergency Health TransportWhen DYA started working in the roads of Vizcaya in 1967, the Sanitarian Help in the Roads (later DYA) only had two ambulances, one in Boroa (Amorebieta-Etxano) and other in Muñatones (Somorrostro). The service only worked initially the weekends. Step by step the number of ambulances was increasing (donated by the Council of Vizcaya and other institutions) and finally started the daily service in 1986, with the creation of the Galdakao base and after the bases of Santurce, Getxo, Muskiz, Iurreta and at last, Durango, Sodupe and Barakaldo. In the actuality, DYA is making an average of 152 exits daily. This average make question ourselves how much anguish, suffers, pain and, summarising, how much lives DYA’s ambulances and volunteers have saved in more than four decades. |
